The Meta-owned company has begun testing a new digital collectible feature, with a select amount of creators and collectors in the United States able to share the NFTs that they have either created or bought on their Instagram posts and reels. The feature is possible thanks to Instagram collecting and organizing public data from certain open blockchains from which they can identify which collectibles belong to which collectors.

In January 2022, there were also allegations that the Facebook and Instagram teams were working on NFT integration. It was about the possibility of using non-fungible tokens as a profile, as well as NFT monetization on the platform.
Experts suggest that Instagram will allow popular publications to be sold as NFTs. It is possible that the developers will offer users to issue non-fungible tokens for subscribers to access certain stories or publications on the social network.
